Dr. David Curtin
Born and raised in Illinois on the western edge of the Chicago suburbs, Dr. David Curtin received his undergraduate Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology. While there, he completed his senior research thesis on water treatment methods for the world’s rural poor, which led to a three-month humanitarian trip to the Peruvian Andes immediately after graduating.
He then attended Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While in dental school, he met his future wife, Dr. Sarah Janowski.
After graduating in 2012, Dr. Curtin continued to practice in a clinic in Philadelphia that served low-income patients. He and Dr. Janowski then moved back to Illinois to be closer to Dr. Curtin’s family in 2013. On April 30th 2016, Dr. Curtin and Dr. Janowski got married. They moved to the Shenandoah Valley and took over ownership of Blue Stone Hills Dentistry immediately afterward.
Dr. Curtin feels it is important to stay on the cutting-edge of dentistry and to offer the most advanced treatments. He has a particular interest in the field of Sleep Medicine. He has sleep apnea himself, so he has a familiarity with the experience of wearing CPAP/BiPAP devices as well as Dental Mandibular Advancement Devices. He has completed many hours of continuing education from the American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Curtin gives back to his local community by volunteering with many organizations. He is a volunteer dentist for the Blue Ridge Free Clinic and provides pro bono care for First Step Women’s Shelter. As an avid lover of cats and dogs, he also serves on the board of directors for the Harrisonburg-Rockingham SPCA.
In his spare time, Dr. Curtin enjoys watching sports, cooking, playing tennis, and cycling. Drs. Curtin and Janowski have been rescuing retired racing greyhounds since 2014. They currently have a rescue greyhound named Howie whom they adore. The doctors can often be found walking their dogs in Keezletown or at the Smithland Road Dog Park in Harrisonburg where Howie is very popular due to his ability to run circles around the other dogs and tire them out!
