Harrisonburg Implant Dentures
Dental implants can be used to create natural looking and feeling tooth replacement prosthetics. For patients who are fully edentulous (without teeth), dental implant supported dentures make it possible for them to do things they may not ever have thought they could do again such as biting into an apple without fear of slipping dentures. At Blue Stone Hills Dentistry, we are dedicated to creating the best possible treatments to provide as close to natural restorations, and that’s what dental implants allow us to do. If you want to learn more about dental implant supported dentures or any of our other treatments, please contact us to schedule a tooth replacement consultation in our state-of-the-art Harrisonburg dentistry practice. We look forward to helping you create a healthy, flawless smile.
Like traditional dentures, implant-retained prosthetics are used to replace a full row of missing teeth. Unlike removable dentures that rely on suction between the denture and the gum line for stability, implant supported prosthetics are held firmly in place with metal posts that mimic the lost root systems of teeth. In addition to providing improved stability for dentures, dental implants create the stimulation necessary to prevent diminished jawbone density and gum tissue volume. These permanently affixed tooth replacement prosthetics fully repair damaged smiles and last a lifetime.
Overdentures combine the best aspects of both traditional dentures and implant-retained prosthetics. Like traditional tooth replacement prosthetics, overdentures are removable, so you can take them out for cleaning and overnight storage. This is an ideal option for patients with arthritis or other health concerns that affect motor skills. Because they can be easily brushed outside of the mouth or soaked overnight in cleaning solution, they are often much more sanitary. Patients with traditional implant-retained dentures may suffer from a form of gum disease that affects patients with dental implants and can lead to implant failure, infection, and other oral health concerns. Patients with removable dentures are better able to clean both the tooth replacement prosthetics and their gums, significantly reducing risk for oral health concerns.
What’s Right for Me?
No treatment is right for every patient, but for many of those we treat, dental implant supported dentures offer a nearly-natural dental restoration that allows them to experience healthy function as though their lost teeth have been put back in place. Some of the many benefits of implant-retained dentures include:
- Improved denture chewing ability from as low as 20% with traditional dentures to 70% or more with an implant supported prosthetic.
- Improved confidence to smile, speak, or eat in any personal or professional setting.
- Long lasting restoration that can last three times longer than traditional dentures before they need to be repaired or replaced.
- Improved oral health by preventing diminished jawbone density and gum tissue volume.
